IPL the missing element

People are a little surprised with the success that the IPL is enjoying but I think its finally filling a very big void that has existed in India for a while. The Indian entertainment industry is a very mature one, we've had films for a long long time. Even our small screen entertainment is a well established industry, but for all these choices there wasn't any home grown sports entertainment. The IPL is not just about cricket, its about a show, its about a spectacle , its about entertainment. Finally there is something a 20 something (aren't we all 20 something's at heart) can go to in the evening which doesn't involve staring at a screen or drowning in alcohol to enjoy an overcrowded situation.

I believe there are so many EPL, NBA and F1 fans in India just because it was more than just a sport, it was an event. Think about it even the WWE is big in India.

What makes the IPL truly unique is the size of audience and the fact that it's starting from scratch. Cricket is already the second most popular sport in the world. The IPL if managed correctly could become a globally viewed league and the perfect ambassador for cricket.

For me it's an excuse to watch more cricket and try and get those funky jerseys.

Of job hunting miseries and everlasting hope…

Do you ever feel like you are being followed ? Followers do a good job of maintaing a safe distance and watching your moves. But sometimes, they get ahead of themselves, move really close, and then you can feel the heat of their stare at the back of your head. You know ? No ? Hmm.

Off late I have been feeling like I am being followed by a huge grey rain cloud. My very own water filled stalker. Brimming over and yet still self contained. Pregnant with wonderful possibilities of a brilliant career and life thereafter, but I will never know. This storm cloud doesn't tease. No drizzles. Only down pours.

I wonder when it will be time for the cloud to let go. I suspect it'll be some lazy Thursday afternoon while I am wallowing in self pity. Out of no where the cloud will open up and pour down possibilities and happiness on me.

And then I will walk on, like there wasn't a cloud in the first place.

But until then…I look over my shoulders every now and then.

Insomniac

This is a short story of a man who went to sleep and woke up an eon later. Now people are smarter, faster, healthier and younger! He should have been extinct like his other Jurassic relatives. He is petrified to sleep again and wishfully thinks, this a nightmare and he will wakeup anytime soon. Somebody please tell him, he is living his nightmare.

Vagina Monologues

I had chance to watch the play “Vagina Monologues” it performed by The Bentley Women’s Center. If you want to read more about the play here is the link(Vagina Monologues).

Even though I have my reservations about some content of the play and found it offensive and overboard, it was nonetheless entertaining. While the last part of the play “The Women Who Loved To Make Vagina Happy” which had the clit moan, the vaginal moan, the WASP moan, the doggy moan, the uninhibited militant bisexual moan, the machine-gun moan and the triple-orgasm moan clearly stole the show. The woman who played “The Flood” and “Because He Liked To Look At It” was simply brilliant and hilarious.

A talented and colorful cast with tickets at just 3$ and also for just cause it was a real steal. And thanks to Ms. Rekha Raghvan for the idea and the ticket!

Soothsayer

I came across this interesting site www.YouNoodle.com which supposedly predicts whether the start-ups are going to be a success. Since it has financial backers include Paypal co-founders Max Levchin and Peter Thiel, and the Founders Fund, a venture capital firm (Source: NYtimes) it is no hoax. It has really cool stuff, if you have time to explore.

Jodhaa Akbar

When you wait for almost an eternity for something, there is a very high probability it is going to disappoint you. Mainly because you tend to have unreasonably expectations.

क्या करे यह मॅन बी कितना बावला है.

Nonetheless a good watch. Also I got this same huge poster of Ash “Jodha a Rajut princess”. Yay!!

VenkatLakshmi as Beatrix Kiddo

Just realized starting a comic strip is so f'hard. Just like any other billion dollar venture, this is just a teaser/ trailer or whatever you want to call it. In case you were wondering what on earth makes him think he can pull it off. Well! I don’t think I can pull it off. But based on the lack of constructive feedback received from my avid readers.

I decided on the following things

1)Shorten my blogs.

2)Pay attention to my grammar or lack of it.

3)Be more creative.

Introducing the very creative, hip, outspoken, passionate, schizophrenic, Gayatri look alike my very own disillusioned VenkatLakshmi.

Clearly VenkatLakshmi idolizes Beatrix Kiddo.

81

I played football last night, something which I never thought I would; even though it was touch football, with bunch of overweight and unfit kids. It was fun playing wide receiver and safety until only huge clumsy oaf tackled me. Luckily I got away with a broken little finger and was only dazed for couple of minutes after the tackle. Readers are invited to YMCA, Waltham on every Thursday 7pm-10pm for limited live edition of the show “Randy Moss moves by a Desi”.

Spygate

There has been lot of questions about the legitimacy of the Patriots perfect season and their previous Superbowl wins. More recently from the Senator Arlen Spector that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has to give more answers. While Senators sanity and creditability is questionable, it does raise some doubts in any normal human being, more so in my cynically infested mind. Before I dissect into this, I want to make one thing very clear. If anything this whole episode has made be more passionate and ardent Patriots fan, it would digression to delve into my reasoning for this and why I clearly I need professional. But it is interesting to analyze and rationalize others point of view.

Patriots fan: This one is the easiest. Clearly the fans don’t want to believe any of this and reason out jealousy as the main cause for trying to taint the Patriots.

Other fans: Their team has been spanked by Patriots and on verge of history by going 19-0. While they are disappointed at the team’s loss they are also looking for consolation as this fits perfectly into their scheme. Instead of directing all the disappointment and angry toward their dear team, they can direct it to this issue.

NFL: The commissioner did hand out fines and Patriots had to forfeit some draft picks for next year, but it was widely viewed as lenient punishment. There is a very compelling and probably the only reason behind this commissioner wanted to quell any loss of revenue to the NFL because of this incident. Maybe a small part was also reinstating trust in NFL. NFL is run only to generate revenue!

Media: had a field day when the scandal broke. The debate started if the previous Superbowl wins were doubts. But unfortunately they realized readers were getting tired of the same story and luckily for them Patriots unbeaten season came along. So they conveniently shifted focus on to unbeaten season. By doing this it was a mutually exclusive decision, because they couldn’t glorify them if it was tainted. Hence Spygate scandal was pushed underneath the magnificent edifice of an unbeaten season. Then comes the interesting part, Newyork Times digs some the letters and incites Senator Arlen Spector to come out and ask for answers. Maybe Newyork Giant's last ditch efforts to rattle Patriots.

Kalkoholism: In end nobody cares what really happened and will always perceive what they always wanted.

Go Pats!!

Thanksgiving?

After long hiatus from blogging I have been itching to blog again. I wanted to write something that would be meaningful, purposeful, profound and original and that would make my nonexistent fans worth the wait. But then I realized that would have been never. So even though this isn’t kalkoholism, it’s something close to me.

While on the plane back I was thinking about the whole trip. What I did and how I could have used it more efficiently to find Gayatri. I wanted to badly write about my Bangalore trip and how it had changed my way of thinking about Bangalore in particular and life in general. When I say Bangalore I mean everybody and everything associated with it. Initially I had full range of emotions from joy to sorrow, from success to failures, from anger, frustration to resignation and every other possible emotion a living being is capable of experiencing. Then it occurred to me I could spare those details and share only things that I am thankful for and only things that really matter me. My mum, dad, niece, badrax, sriju, giri, other old good friends, mindless banter, getting philosophical, myriad other mean people that make my people look good, free kurtas and the girl who gives them, Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, avil, traffic jams, awesome chats, humbling auto drivers, frequent weight checks, sri textiles, reliance jewelers, imperial, movies, mom’s food, playing football, omnipresent poor and rich people, dust allergies, panacea hospital, dead and back, white light, hair, monopoly, my brother and sister. If only I could freeze time and keep all these for eternity.
